There was an interesting post on the Listverse site this morning that listed the top ten most spoken languages of the world. The information is interesting to us because as you can well imagine the top ten spoken languages should be an indicator of the amount of translation work generated in those countries. So I decided to pull our top ten languages by revenue and compare those to the top ten languages on the Listverse site. Here are the results:

You will see 6 out of the 10 languages are listed in both columns so there is certainly a correlation between our top languages and the top spoken languages of the world. I would guess that our mix of clients and which markets they require are what cause the differences in the list. Almost all of our customers have a strong presence in North America, the EU and China which is clearly illustrated in our top ten list.
As other markets begin to consume more imported goods and services the mix of our top ten should continue to change. When we started the business in 1995 Chinese wasn’t even in our top ten list so you can see how quickly things can change.
